What to expect in Barre West's Mom & Baby classes

Bringing a new baby into the world changes everything, including your relationship with movement.

Maybe you're eager to feel strong again, but you're wondering when it's safe to exercise. Maybe you're struggling to find childcare, or perhaps the thought of leaving your baby for an hour just isn't appealing yet.

That's exactly why we created our Mom & Baby Barre, Pilates, and Movers classes.

These classes are designed to help you reconnect with your body, bond with your baby, and meet other moms who are navigating the same season of life, all in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Whether you're six weeks postpartum or several months into motherhood, here's what you can expect:

More Than a Workout

At Barre West, our Mom & Baby classes are about so much more than fitness. They're about rebuilding confidence. Finding community. Laughing when your baby decides tummy time is over.

Celebrating the little victories, whether that's your baby's first smile during class or the first time you've felt like yourself again. Motherhood isn't meant to be done alone, and neither is your postpartum recovery. Rather than trying to "bounce back," our goal is to help you move forward feeling stronger than ever.

Who Are These Classes For?

Our Mom & Baby classes are designed for postpartum moms who have been cleared by their healthcare provider to return to exercise.

Babies are welcome before they're confidently walking, and every class is designed with flexibility in mind because, well… babies don't exactly follow schedules. Some sleep through the entire class, some want cuddles. Some decide they're the star of the show.

All of it is welcome 😊.

Mom & Baby Barre

Our signature Mom & Baby Barre class combines low-impact strength training with functional movement to help you rebuild strength after pregnancy.

You'll focus on:

  • Deep core activation

  • Pelvic floor awareness

  • Glute, hip strength and leg strength

  • Upper back and shoulder stability

  • Posture

  • Balance

Many exercises are inspired by everyday motherhood. Lifting your baby, carrying a car seat, pushing a stroller, and spending hours feeding and rocking. Mom and baby barre is designed for babies that love the body carrier.

Most of class is done standing with your little tucked cozily in their carrier with the final 10 minutes of class centered around mat based exercises where baby can come out of their carrier or stay nestled in with you.

Mom & Baby Pilates

If you're looking to reconnect with your core, Pilates is an incredible place to start.

Our Mom & Baby Pilates classes emphasize:

  • Breathwork

  • Core coordination

  • Pelvic floor health

  • Spinal mobility

  • Functional strength

  • Gentle flexibility

You'll learn how your diaphragm, deep core, and pelvic floor work together while rebuilding stability from the inside out. No body carriers used in this class. Little ones are welcome to lay, play or snooze on a mat or blanket beside mom throughout class.

Many moms tell us they leave class standing taller, breathing easier, and feeling more connected to their bodies.

Movers

As your little one grows, so do their curiosity and confidence. Our Movers classes are designed for moms with active babies and toddlers who are beginning to crawl, cruise, or explore. Instead of expecting little ones to stay in one place (because let's be honest—that's impossible), Movers embraces movement.

You'll still enjoy a full-body workout while your child plays, explores, and interacts with other children in a safe, welcoming environment.

It's fitness that works with motherhood instead of fighting against it.

Yes, Babies Cry

Let's address the biggest concern we hear.

"What if my baby cries?" They will. And someone else's baby probably will too.

That's completely normal - our classes are intentionally designed for real life.

Need to stop and feed your baby? Go for it.

Need a diaper change? - We'll see you in a minute.

Need to spend five minutes rocking your little one to sleep? Absolutely.

Nobody is judging you because every mom in the room has been there. If you’re running a bit late or need and extra hand, our team is there for you no matter what.

You'll Learn More Than Exercises

One thing that makes Barre West's postpartum programming different is the education woven into every class. Throughout class, you'll learn:

  • How to reconnect with your core safely

  • Strategies for supporting pelvic floor health

  • Breathing techniques that reduce unnecessary pressure on your abdomen

  • Proper posture for feeding and carrying your baby

  • Functional movement patterns that make everyday motherhood easier

These are skills you'll continue using long after class ends.

You'll Find Your Village

The workouts are wonderful. The community is unforgettable.

One of the most meaningful parts of our Mom & Baby program is watching friendships develop between moms who met simply because they showed up to class one morning. You'll meet women who understand sleepless nights, who celebrate milestones with you, who reassure you that you're doing a better job than you think.

Sometimes the best part of class isn't the workout. It's realizing you're not doing motherhood alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing:

  • A blanket or play mat for your baby.

  • A body carrier (for Barre classes only).

  • A diaper bag with the essentials.

  • Water & comfortable workout gear for yourself.

  • Grip socks for class

  • Anything that helps your baby feel comfortable, like a favourite toy or pacifier

We'll take care of the rest. All mats,

What if I have to feed my baby?

Perfect. Feed your baby whenever they need it.
There is absolutely no expectation that you keep exercising if your baby needs you.

What if I miss half the workout?

Then you spent half the class taking care of your baby, and that's exactly what this season of life looks like. You'll never be expected to choose between your workout and your little one.

What if I'm not "back to normal" yet?

Truthfully? There's no such thing.

Your body has done something extraordinary. Our classes are designed to help you build strength from where you are today—not where you think you should be.

Your First Class

Walking into a room full of moms for the first time can feel intimidating. We promise you're not the only one feeling that way.Our instructors will greet you, help you get settled, introduce you to other moms, and guide you through class with plenty of modifications along the way.

No experience is necessary. No perfect baby is required. No perfect mom exists. Just come as you are.

Motherhood Is Better Together

Your postpartum journey deserves support, your body deserves patience, and you deserve an hour that's just as much for you as it is for your little one. Whether you're rebuilding strength, searching for community, or simply looking for something that gets both of you out of the house, we'd love to welcome you into our Mom & Baby program.

At Barre West, you'll find more than a workout. You'll find a community that's cheering for both you and your baby every step of the way.
